2023 Vintage
2023 Vintage Notes
The season kicked off with historic winter rains. Nearly 40 inches in some parts of the Westside. Replenishing deep soil moisture and revitalizing the vines after years of dry conditions.
What followed was one of the longest and coolest growing seasons in over a decade. A mild spring led into a temperate summer with almost no major heat spikes, allowing for an extended hang time that pushed harvest back by nearly four to five weeks. This slow, steady ripening was a gift for the Willow Creek District, resulting in fruit with electric natural acidity, deep color extraction, and remarkably supple tannins.
For the G2 and G2 North vineyards, this meant a vintage of incredible balance. The wines are characterized by high-toned aromatics and a vibrant mineral tension, proving that when Mother Nature provides the water and the cool air, Paso Robles can produce wines of immense power and refined elegance. It is a "storybook" vintage that captures the purest expression of our rocky, limestone soils.
What you’ll taste: Because it was so cool, the grapes kept their natural zing. This makes for wines that feel "alive" and fresh on the palate. The long season allowed tannins to ripen fully without the sugars skyrocketing, meaning the wines are powerful but sophisticated.
